The Armed Forces Law Association of New Zealand in conjunction with the School of Law, University of Canterbury, New Zealand will be holding the 2008 conference at the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, over the period 4 - 6 April 2008.  The call for papers is here

AFLANZ Memorial Prize

AFLANZ has established an annual prize valued at $1,000.00 for New Zealand barristers and solicitors and students studying law at a New Zealand university.  The prize is awarded in memory of the enormous contributions made to New Zealand military law by the late Captain E.D. 2007 Conference

The Military-Civil Relationship: Conflict or Co-Operation?

AFLANZ and the New Zealand Defence Force Directorate of Legal Services held a successful conference on 9 and 10 February 2007, at Trentham Military Camp at Upper Hutt.  A brief report can be found here.


Objects

The objects of AFLANZ are:

  • to promote research and study of the legal issues affecting New Zealand’s armed forces by members of AFLANZ and other interested parties;
  • to improve the public's understanding of the legal issues affecting New Zealand’s armed forces;
  • to publish a law review and other publications, including through electronic media, dedicated to the legal issues affecting New Zealand's armed forces;
  • to convene periodic conferences and meetings to hear lectures on and debate legal issues affecting New Zealand's armed forces
